Editing of a polygonal mesh

Once a polygonal mesh is extracted from volumetric data, any imperfections need to be resolved and validated. These imperfections might includes holes (each surface needs to be topologically closed), intersecting polygons and singularities. I won't know how much editing will be needed before I try the surface extraction with a few sets of parameters.

It looks like MeshLab might be a good surface editing tool:

Geometrical music theory

Science 18 April 2008 Vol 320, Issue 5874 has a wonderful article about the geometry of music, how  "many musical terms can be understood as expressing symmetries of n-dimensional space, where each dimension represents a voice in the score. Identifying—gluing together—points related by these symmetries produces exotic mathematical spaces (orbifolds) that subsume a large number of geometric models previously proposed."

Volume to surface data

The process of surface extraction will likely need to be done several times to get the desired surface qualities -- sulcal features that are deep, but not too deep, with a manageable number of polygon flaws.

Proposal review

Panel Summary

The project proposes to design and implement an Internet based system for organizing and browsing multi-media content to promote creativity in a communal environment. They will integrate several existing tools to create the so-called Virtual Workbench.

Virtual graffiti

I've been thinking about a combinatorial problem related to square tilings -- how does one arrange n terms (or symbols/motifs) such that all combinations of neighbors occur. This led to a square tiling that would look good on a large scale, so I did a photo manipulation on a brick wall:

Good news

I finally heard back from the CreativeIT program yesterday and the Enzymind proposal has been declined. Phew. That would have been a lot of work. Now I have to figure out something else to do (for income). For the time being it will be primarily music but I hope to segue into more writing. Maybe some short stories, armchair philosophy or even a novel. Writing the proposals, at the very least, was good writing practice.  I also learned a lot about the theory and mechanics of the creative process which will be useful for future endeavors.
