Virtual graffiti

I've been thinking about a combinatorial problem related to square tilings -- how does one arrange n terms (or symbols/motifs) such that all combinations of neighbors occur. This led to a square tiling that would look good on a large scale, so I did a photo manipulation on a brick wall:

I like the idea of virtual graffiti or conceptual public art, similar to the Graffiti Rresearch Lab's projects and aims.

Stencil tagging

Might be fun/easy to make a couple micro cut-out stencils (8.5x11"), take some black and white spray paint, and paint that up next to some existing punk/gang tags around town. There is something a bit alien-hieroglyphic/unsettling about that pattern. Its very cool to see you making a hybrid image of a photo with a mathematical pattern kind of an aesthetic ideal for me as I've been thinking a lot about mapping geometric patterns to and from photos.
