Funny you mentioned this "moire" type animation trick. The last couple weeks I've been thinking about a particular motion illusion:

I'm starting a project base on this illusion, but so far it is just a list comparing different parameters of the basic element. What I want to do is see how well I can fake motion in an apparent still image, by superposing these kind of grayscale animations onto photographs or other art stuff.
