Video on an interesting software tool that decomposes recorded audio chords into individual notes.
and,
Listening to the sober but frequently eloquent and insightful Schopenhauer.
Listening to an audiobook of HD Thoreau's Walden. He is a, if not thee, master of simplified living and I have been duly inspired by him. The recording is particularly well read.
Today I am listening to an audiobook of Defoe's A Journal of the Plague Year.
Its a fictionalized work, but of an interesting event and period. The time it takes place, 1665, was the same period that saw the emergence of genuine science and the scientific method via the Royal Society.
I've been working at learning to play on the guitar the 'Mount Everest' of Bach's compositions for solo instrument: the Chaconne. This radio broadcast mp3 of the fiddle version is worth a listen in that they discuss some of its meaning and implications. Some powerful metaphors are used to describe it such as the seasons representation of a man's life.
I'm thinking about adding a digital diatonic vocal harmonizer to my live musical performances. Some impressive high speed DSP technology in this thing.
I posted an MP3 of a open mic performance I did on Halloween. Eventually I intend to post some performances that I do with my looping equipment. I'm not sure how well algorithm based music will go over with a crowd like this...but you never know. I need to find a good funk algorithm.
Here's an example of a song, called 'little black duress*', that I put together with my multilooper. It consists of three loops and the song is basically just playing different possible combinations of the loops, except there is no loop1-3 combo which I might add as a phrase in a new mix. Loop 1 is the bass-like riff, loop 2 is is the arpeggio with the vocal, loop 3 is the high melody bit.
I'm doing some more music today. Working on learning the first three etudes of Heitor Villa-Lobos. Villa-Lobos has some similarities to Bach in that his music I consider to be very geometrical.
I'm teaching myself how to make screencasts today. I'm hoping to make some presentations tutorials and such. I found what seems to be a pretty decent freeware screencasting program called wink .
